Element: Confirm design brief for new product
  • Review product design with customer and other key stakeholders to determine technical specifications, timelines, aesthetic, cost, sustainability and customer perceived value
  • Determine, with input from key stakeholders, supply chain and production choices with potential benefits for sustainability and/or customer perceived value and implications for design brief
  • Determine any regulatory, industry code or intellectual property (IP) requirements for product
  • Identify any required tooling, process or equipment needs
  • Confirm design brief, including relevant drawings
  • Determine design brief conforms to organisation objectives and capability
  • Obtain approval on total design brief from all relevant personnel

Element: Determine material requirements for product
  • Select appropriate materials and components in liaison with key stakeholders
  • Determine material and component testing and evaluation regime required to meet product end use requirements and regulatory and/or industry code requirements
  • Arrange for testing and evaluation of trial materials and components
  • Guide material trial process and interpret material trial results
  • Determine final materials and components specifications and details of value chain

Element: Determine process requirements for product
  • Select process to make product in liaison with key stakeholders and based on relevant factors
  • Determine any special process and/or equipment requirements for this product
  • Communicate with production personnel to determine any concerns and/or training or other needs
  • Adjust design, as required, to satisfy customer and production needs

Element: Ensure process needs for new product have been met
  • Liaise with equipment design and procurement personnel to ensure they align with requirements
  • Interpret hardware specifications and ensure they are appropriate for job
  • Liaise with process personnel to ensure draft procedures for new product have been developed
  • Validate product cost and design meets organisation requirements and capability

Element: Trial new product through the process
  • Design trialling procedures to evaluate key aspects of product and process
  • Liaise with relevant stakeholders to facilitate engagement with trials
  • Ensure trialling procedures incorporate health, safety and environment (HSE) requirements
  • Coordinate trialling of new product
  • Interpret product trial results and guide product trial process
  • Tune process to optimise production of new product

Element: Determine process capability

  • Compare confidence limits with product specification

Element: Coordinate product trials
  • Determine product testing and evaluation regime required to meet end use requirements and regulatory and/or industry code requirements
  • Arrange for testing and evaluation of trial product or prototype
  • Interpret product trial results and guide product trial process
  • Determine final product specification in liaison with key stakeholders
  • Make changes to materials, process and equipment as needed to meet final product specifications

Element: Implement standard procedures for new product
  • Monitor initial production and, in liaison with relevant team members, adjust process, conditions and materials to ensure product and process outcomes conform to customer, regulatory and organisation requirements
  • Update process specifications to reflect optimised operations
  • Make, or initiate action for, updates to standard operating procedures (SOPs) to reflect new product
  • Make, or initiate action for, updates to update equipment and other hardware records to reflect additions/changes

(add new lines for each of the assessment tasks)

Assessment Tasks

Copy and paste from the following data to produce each assessment task. Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.
Copy and paste from the following performance criteria to create an observation checklist for each task. When you have finished writing your assessment tool every one of these must have been addressed, preferably several times in a variety of contexts. To ensure this occurs download the assessment matrix for the unit; enter each assessment task as a column header and place check marks against each performance criteria that task addresses.
